Wikis

Wikis are great for projects and group assignments as compare to e-mails. I am using Wiki in my distance education to do a group assignment. Some times it feels like a dashboard or a noticeboard where everyone is writing their notes for others in their team. I think Wiki's are really good as internal staff newsletter where everyone can add and go to read latest happenings in one go rather than e-mails.

Yes wikis can allow you to track what is happening so you know you always have the latest version of the document with all required changes. They can also be temporary tools which are deleted when their purpose passes. Sounds like you have had some very good wiki experiences.
